Volunteering
It takes a village to run a great Dive Team! Each family is asked to earn two volunteer points during the season, and we encourage everyone to get involved in whatever way fits their schedule. We truly can’t do this without your teamwork and support!
Meet Volunteers:
Announcer – Runs the meet via the microphone. A basic script is available. The announcer introduces each diver, announces the dive and the degree of difficulty involved, and calls out the scores shown by the judges.
Table Workers – Four table workers operate the scoring table, and the dive sheet is passed along with each worker filling a different role. Working at the table may involve recording scores, crossing off high and low scores, adding three numbers together, multiplying with a calculator, and then adding two numbers with a calculator.
Awards Clerk – Starts work as soon as Freshman Girls complete their event. This volunteer organizes the meet sheets in order of their final scores. They attach stickers to ribbons and paperclip them to meet sheets for each diver participating in the meet.
Judges – There are typically five judges (the high and low scores are thrown out, so don’t be nervous!). There are a couple of Dive Judge Clinics run by NVSL at the end of the spring. This is not required to judge B Meets but is highly recommended for judging A Meets.
Referee – This role requires experience judging in at least one “A Meet,” as well as attending a NVSL Referee Clinic. Referees work with the judges and make calls/signals that affect judges’ scores. There are no referees at B Meets.
NVSL offers training for table workers, judges, and referees at the beginning of each summer. Watch for the 2026 training dates and consider participating — having a strong group of trained volunteers helps our meets run smoothly!
Other Roles:
We also have additional team roles listed below. Have another idea? Let us know!
End of Season Awards/Recognitions – Work with Dive Reps and coaches to order medals and trophies, get plaques engraved, print certificates, etc.
Social Events Planning – Plan fun activities for dive team members.
